The year is 1708 and tonight will see the presentation of the 13th annual Pirate Of The Year Awards (known generally as The Golden Parrots)and there is cut-throat competition for the main prizes.

Who will be there? All the regulars, of course, but also some new gang from the Caribbean who reckon their recent fame should be enough to sweep the board.

Add to that long-standing rivalries, unforgotten betrayals and one or two treasure maps, and you just know that 13 is going to be unlucky for one...

Some people have suggested that The Golden Parrot Awards were in fact the forerunners of the Golden Globe Awards, the Oscars, BAFTAs, and all similar ceremonies.   Whether that is entirely correct or not, certainly glamour is the order of the day so buckle on those swashes and come dressed to kill, because there may well be an award for Best Dressed Pirate as well...
